Fred Thompson Believes What We Eat Should Be a Family Affair

December 5, 2007

Apparently Fred Thompson  agrees that what we eat should be a family matter and not the business of the U.S. Government to determine what we can and can’t eat.

“We shouldn’t be looking at the federal government in Washington first and working our way down, it ought to be just the other way around. With that, or whether you’re talking about education, there’s some things the federal government can’t do,” said Thompson in a speech he have in South Carolina.

If you read the previous post about school lunch you know we’re in agreement with Mr. Thompson, a candidate for President. Where do we draw the line on the federal government’s control over what we do and ho we do it? Do we want them to outlaw bacon, whoppers, french fries, and ice cream? Don’t scoff because that’s essentially what some people want them to do. Oh sure, you’ll be able to buy food resembling these items in appearance, but they’ll only contain ingredients allowed by our government. Frankly, it’s terrifying that some moms and politicians think it’s reasonable for ANY government to take on this level of micro-management in how we live our lives.

Eating healthy is a great idea and every parent should teach their children about the benefits of eating healthy and the dangers of eating certain unhealthy foods. In addition, parents that aren’t happy with the food offered at the children’s schools should take matters into their OWN hands and send their kids off to school with the food THEY want their kids eating.

If you think unhealthy food is bad for our kids and the overall well-being of our society then you should think long and hard about what giving the federal government unlimited authority would do to us over time. Do you really trust our government to do what’s right?
