Iraqi Christians go to church for Christmas Mass despite risk
December 25, 2007
As many of you settle back into the comfort of your daily routines please take a moment to think about our Christian Iraqi friends who went to
church to celebrate Christmas Mass despite the risk of being targeted by terrorists rendered insane by their warped interpretation of Islam. I find it inspirational.

Fred Thompson Believes What We Eat Should Be a Family Affair
December 5, 2007
Apparently Fred Thompson agrees that what we eat should be a family matter and not the business of the U.S. Government to determine what we can and can’t eat.
“We shouldn’t be looking at the federal government in Washington first and working our way down, it ought to be just the other way around. With that, or whether you’re talking about education, there’s some things the federal government can’t do,” said Thompson in a speech he have in South Carolina.
If you read the previous post about school lunch you know we’re in agreement with Mr. Thompson, a candidate for President.
Where do we draw the line on the federal government’s control over what we do and ho we do it? Do we want them to outlaw bacon, whoppers, french fries, and ice cream? Don’t scoff because that’s essentially what some people want them to do. Oh sure, you’ll be able to buy food resembling these items in appearance, but they’ll only contain ingredients allowed by our government. Frankly, it’s terrifying that some moms and politicians think it’s reasonable for ANY government to take on this level of micro-management in how we live our lives.
Eating healthy is a great idea and every parent should teach their children about the benefits of eating healthy and the dangers of eating certain unhealthy foods. In addition, parents that aren’t happy with the food offered at the children’s schools should take matters into their OWN hands and send their kids off to school with the food THEY want their kids eating.
If you think unhealthy food is bad for our kids and the overall well-being of our society then you should think long and hard about what giving the federal government unlimited authority would do to us over time. Do you really trust our government to do what’s right?
Effort to Limit Junk Food in Schools
December 2, 2007
Led by Senator Tom Harkin of Iowa, federal lawmakers are considering the broadest effort ever to limit what children eat: a national ban on selling candy, sugary soda and salty, fatty food in school snack bars, vending machines and cafeteria lines.
While I’m all for kids eating healthy foods I’m convinced our federal government should not be interfering with what our local schools do when it comes to serving our children food. It should be left up to parents and school officials at the local level.
The feds haven’t exactly done a great job when it comes to micro-managing our schools (or anything else) and it always concerns me when they try to force their ways on us. Maybe Venezuelans want that type of government with Chavez, but we need to remain as free as we can, for as long as we can.
Organizations like Better School Food mean well, but I cringe when our governments, especially our federal government, get involved in discussions like this. We moms and dads are having our lives and families interfered with by well-intentioned do-gooders that are steering our country further down the path to socialism.
The video below was put together by the Better School Food organization and outlines their objectives. All worthy goals and objectives (except for the odd insertion of eliminating food company commercials they don’t like), that should be shared with kids and parents everywhere. Our schools should add healthy food to their offering. And this should be done at the local level not the federal level. Of course, now we’re into the discussion of how our public schools are centrally managed… and we’ll save that discussion for another day.
New Autism Resource for Moms on YouTube
December 1, 2007
YouTube has a new program for nonprofits and while checking it over the Autism Speaks area within YouTube caught my attention. Autism affects so many kids and families and the new Autism Speaks Channel on YouTube seems like the perfect way to share information with those affected and those who would not otherwise learn much about the disorder.
The 2.5 minute video below is worth watching. They use a combination of wonderful photographs, select facts, and touching song, to give you a clear idea of how pervasive autism has become.
Shopping Can Be Easy?
December 1, 2007
Jacqueline, the owner of an online store, certainly thinks so or she would have chosen another name for her business. She chose to name her business ‘Shopping Can Be EZ‘ and I suppose there’s more to that than just a catchy name.
Since Thanksgiving online sales have exceeded nearly every analysts’ forecasts and it’s clear that more people are finding online shopping easier than packing up the kids and heading to the mall.
Not only does Jacquie offer the convenience of being able to shop for a variety of unique items from the comfort (and safety) of your home, but like many other woman owned online retailers her products include many that no amount of walking through crowds at your local mall would turn up. If you haven’t started buying some of your Christmas gifts online head on over to Jacquie’s ‘Shopping Can Be EZ‘ and check out the handbags, jewelry, pajamas, and hundreds of other great gift items.
Once you’re finished shopping there head on over to our shopping area in our Directory for Moms and you’ll find hundreds of other mom-friendly shops to discover.
